Wow! An agency that is a helpmate not a hindrance.
Sean Hudson, PhD will tell us more about the Soil & Water Conservation District. He refers to the Agency as “the forgotten loop”.
Soil and Water Conservation Districts come out of the push for soil conservation after the Dust Bowl. As historically agricultural counties have become more urbanized, conservation districts have moved into helping urban residents and homeowners address natural resource issues on their properties.
They can provide NO COST technical assistance on a wide range of issues such as drainage and flooding, stream erosion, invasive species, as well as providing educational outreach workshops on pollinators, storm water retention, and other conservation topics as needed.
They are not a regulatory agency,. From a real estate investment stand point, they can help our members with identifying potential drainage issues before a property is acquired, saving them money in the long term, or they can recommend value adding solutions like rain/pollinator gardens or natural stream bank stabilization methods.
